The Intensive – director in the boiling stage, is a brand new event dedicated to the art of directing. In the spirit of Kino, Jamais Lu and Osez!, this unique initiative will highlight this work of shadow while providing a playing ground for experimentation and audacity. In total, four artists from the stage, seasoned or succession, will be paired with creative teams and will present the fruit of an intensive three-day work before the public and peer panel. At the end of a selection process, selected stage artists will be given a 20-minute excerpt of text, as well as a design team and performers. They will then have three days and a limited number of hours to hatch their vision and signature. The opportunity to reveal itself as artists of the staging, to take advantage of it to get out of their comfort zone, or even dare to take risks otherwise unthinkable in the context of a production subject to the imperatives of a public broadcast. On the afternoon of 18 January, the public will be invited to come and discover the proposals during a public presentation at La Charpente des fauves, where all the proposals will follow. A panel of well-deserved directors will then feed into discussion and reflection, analysing forces and influences. No awards, but the assurance of a better knowledge of a work where the scope of choices is decisive in the adaptation – and appreciation – of plays to the theatre. The call for applications is open until 25 November. The Intensif is as much a focus on the succession of the staging, on artists who are not (yet) associated with the staging, as on established artists who are stimulated by a playful, formative risk taking and who seek to break isolation.
