With Discrete Flow of Light, third and final work of a triptych based on light-sound synchrese, the artist begins a reflection on co-creation with artificial intelligence; shared decision-making power, extra-musical references induced by the machine, and feedbacks in real time are explored. Together with the use of an intelligent computer process, Côté adopts the concept of harmonic series allowing the emergence of new musical and conceptual possibilities, in line with the idea of flux, momentary eruption, and continuity. Acting as a prologue to this project, Discrete Stream of Light (2022) is a short-lived sound work inspired by the sparkling brightness entering the artist's studio at dusk, initiated as a spontaneous creative exercise following the start of daily minimalist studies. The premise of the initial project, a direct and intimate window on the artist's creative world - by the place, the brightness - thus acts as an emotional vector of the proposed project. The direct similarity of names, unlike a word, amplifies this intention. This perceptive sensitivity to light is also rooted in the artist's personal physical sensitivity, linked to a physical condition; young, he could not look at the sun without fainting, so a filter (glasses) became daily necessary in order to appreciate the outside. Biographies
Guillaume Côté Guillaume Côté is a sound and multidisciplinary artist based in Quebec City. His practice oscillates between figurative and abstraction, with a marked interest in contrasts between synthetic sounds and field recordings. He is co-founder of the collectives Trames, Falaises and Aubes. Since 2022, he has developed a cycle of digital works related to his hypersensitivity to light (of Light). Overlooking several mediums, this body of works invests sound art, robotics, and audiovisual installation, in a goal of sublimation of the senses and appropriation of synesthesia. Resolutely minimalist, this corpus opens the way to a practice where the notion of abstraction is at its peak. His work has been presented at several festivals and centres internationally, including MUTEK (Montreal, Tokyo), Elektra, Stereolux, Intonal, LEV, Gnration and PRECTXE. He regularly participates in co-creation projects, in collaboration with local organizations or communities, in an approach that values access and knowledge sharing.
